The scientific community lost one of its great voices this week when Stephen Schneider, Professor of Environmental Biology and Global Change at Stanford University, passed away from a sudden heart attack. Dr. Schneider was an early voice, warning of the dangers of escalating carbon emissions to the global environment, and his contributions to science and public communication of scientific topics will be sorely missed.
Dr. Schneider’s personal web site continues to be an invaluable resource for scientific knowledge and the challenges associated with communicating scientific subjects within a media-saturated culture.
Here is a video of Dr. Schneider from 1979, speaking on growing concerns regarding the rise of carbon emissions and the limits of our knowledge of its impacts. Thanks to Peter Sinclair, of the “Climate Denial Crock of the Week” series, for making this video available.
